Dr.V.Thrimurthulu Lecture Notes Antenna & Wave Propagation CREC Dept. of ECE P a g e | 7 Fig. 5 Fig. 6 Fig. 7 Fig. 8 1.3 Radiation Mechanism: When electric charges undergo acceleration or deceleration, electromagnetic radiation will be produced. Hence it is the motion of charges, that is currents, is the source of radiation. LearnEMC - Electromagnetic Radiation The more difficult challenge for the designers of most electronic products is to design circuits that don't produce too much electromagnetic radiation. In order to understand how and why circuits exhibit unintentional electromagnetic emissions, it is helpful to review a few general concepts related to electromagnetic radiation and antenna theory. Overview of Antennas - ITTC
Slot antennas are used typically at frequencies between 300 MHz and 24 GHz. The slot antenna is popular because they can be cut out of whatever surface they are to be mounted on, and have radiation patterns that are roughly omnidirectional (similar to a linear wire antenna, as we'll see).
Figure 1.3 Radiation mechanism of microstrip patch antenna The repulsive mechanism is between the like charges on the bottom surface of the patch, which causes pushing of some charges from the bottom, to the top of the patch. As a result of this charge movement, currents flow at the top and bottom surface of the patch. Effect of the Different Shapes: Aperture Coupled Microstrip ... Effect of the Different Shapes: Aperture Coupled Microstrip Slot Antenna 105 Microstrip Feed Line Feed substrate dielectric constant should be in the range of 2 to 10.A thinner feed substrate results in less spurious radiation from feed lines, but higher loss. A compromise of 0.01 λ to 0.02 λ is usually good. Polarization reconfigurable slot antenna for 5.8 GHz wireless ... The antenna works at around 5.5 GHz and has a nearly 3.1% 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth. In , polarization reconfiguration metasurface is rotated to realize 4% 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth in both RHCP and LHCP states. In this paper, a reconfigurable slot antenna with a simple structure is presented. Antenna Fundamentals - cv.nrao.edu Antenna Fundamentals. An antenna is a device for converting electromagnetic radiation in space into electrical currents in conductors or vice-versa, depending on whether it is being used for receiving or for transmitting, respectively. Passive radio telescopes are receiving antennas.

Not sure I agree that the radiation mechanism is totally different for a patch antenna, which is sometimes regarded as a slot. So far as I can see with such antennas, the radiation still arises because charges in the metal structure are accelerated. This occurs when the current in the sheet is forced to deviate around the slot.
An aperture-coupled design is proposed for Microstrip slot antenna to improve its radiation pattern as well as bandwidth. It is based on coupling of an aperture between the patch antenna and Microstrip slot line. The slot shape also affects the radiation patterns by choosing the proper shape of the slot.
